Most of this microscope seems to work remarkably well. I almost feel guilty about that, but I could tell that she really wanted to set aside old memories. I asked how much she wanted for it and she sold it to me for $15. She told me that her husband had been the director of a large clinical laboratory and he had brought this home to work with. Sitting there on the floor of her garage was this amazing microscope, but very VERY dirty. The older lady who lived there had recently lost her husband and she was trying to get rid of some of his old books and stuff. We noticed a small "garage sale" sign on an old house and decided to stop. One weekend in the early 90's my wife and I were driving in the outer suburbs of Boston (near Concord if I recall). The story on this microscope is pretty simple.
